primary carer
Primary Parent or Primary carer is an outdated and discriminatory term, no longer applicable from pre-2015 and onwards, previously used to describe the parent who has most parenting time with the children after separation.

The Primary carer or parent is overwhelmingly the mother in the UK, with around 90% of primary carers being mothers. This will change as the rights of the Father are beginning to be recognised by the Court system and as Fathers are as capable, if not more so dependant on research reviewed, than mothers.
Organisations such as Families Need Fathers say this is not in the children's best interests and have campaigned to remove this alleged indirect discrimination and prejudice in calling for a presumption of shared parenting and equal separation of parenting time after separation, as happens with financial matters following a divorce.
